Fireball Roberts 1962 Pontiac Catalina stock car - (built 2002)

I built this '62 Pontiac Catalina as a replica of the car Fireball Roberts used to win the 1962 Daytona 500. It was built from the current issue AMT/Ertl kit. To make the replica I modified the body by enlarging the wheel wells and removing the molded in windshield wipers. I found a correct vintage wheel and tire in a parts box I bought at a swap meet, but I only got one of each. So, I made a mold and cast a complete set in urethane. The interior features a scratch built roll cage. Chassis mods include lowering the suspension slightly to get the right stance. For decals I used a set made by Yesterday's Racing Decals. The side dump exhaust was scratch built from aluminum tubing. And lastly, I added photo-etch hood pins to the hood and trunk.
